Community-Based Rehabilitation Project (CBR)

The Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Project was launched by NAB, Unit Maharashtra, with the support of Christoffel Blind Mission (CBM) Germany and Andheri Hilfe Bonn E.V. Germany. From 1992 to 1998, 17 CBR programs were successfully implemented across various districts in Maharashtra, aiming to uplift and integrate visually impaired individuals into their local communities.

Under this initiative, villagers were trained to enhance their small businesses, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to improve their livelihoods. As awareness grew, community members recognized the project’s significance and began actively participating in providing social, medical, and educational support to visually impaired individuals in their villages.

With over 5,400 beneficiaries, the CBR Project has had a lasting impact, fostering self-reliance, inclusivity, and better quality of life for individuals with visual impairments across Maharashtra. This initiative continues to inspire communities to support and empower those with disabilities, ensuring they receive the opportunities and assistance needed to lead independent lives.
